Mental Health: Finding Help ...

The concept for the mental health brochure arose when discussing mental health with a community member who had had their child experience worrying mental health symptoms (including self-harming) after a traumatic event. Although this mother was well skilled in research, she had no idea as to where to turn other than doctors. The idea arose to develop a brochure to place in doctors surgeries (as well as schools, etc) to guide families (for themselves or their children) to some of the support sites and agencies available that they could find assistance and information at. The brochure is generalised in order to be utilised across other regions, however there is the local contact for a Mental Illness Fellowship Australia Inc organisation to find contact details of local services and support groups.
In addition to general counselling and information helplines, websites and a local contact, the brochure has information that families can share with teachers or employers to gain additional support in these environments. There is also a specific section for young people given the high prevalence of mental health affecting this group.

You can find the set of brochures on the ADCET website at http://www.adcet.edu.au/View.aspx?id=7783
